Attack of the Demon Dinner Ladies Page 7

And she said, “I came back as a trainee dinner lady when I was young and was upset to see that this awful dish was STILL on the school menu. I fought hard to have it taken off. I even wrote a letter to the Prime Minister about it! And then one day I SNAPPED. I just could NOT bear to serve shepherd’s pie any longer. So I fed every last bit to the birds before lunchtime and that day the school had to be shut and every single pupil was sent home because there wasn’t a SCRAP left to eat. So it was no surprise when I was SACKED! I suppose I became rather

  infamous after that!”

And that’s when the lollipop man laughed out loud and all the teachers and dinner ladies giggled too.

And then she said, “But now I’m BACK as head dinner lady and I solemnly swear NEVER to serve you SHEPHERD’S PIE ever again!”

And that’s when the dinner hall exploded with applause, and even the other dinner ladies clapped and cheered.

Then Amy got up and ran over to the kitchen and pulled a bit of string and down came a huge banner that said “NO MORE SHEPHERD’S PIE!” and everyone cheered and laughed.

Then the head dinner lady said that she’d created a NEW school pie, just for us and that she hoped we liked it. And EVERYONE nodded their heads that they would because we could all smell it and it smelled DELICIOUS!

Then just before we all went up to try the new pie someone shouted out, “What’s the new pie called?”

And the dinner lady turned and said, “How about we call it

And everyone cheered and laughed because it was a brilliant name and Maisie went bright red and smiled.

That’s when I said to Amy, “Your mum is BRILLIANT. I can’t believe the reason she got sacked all those years ago is because she was trying to get rid of the shepherd’s pie! She’s my HERO!”

And then we all laughed and RAN over to get some pie because EVERYONE wanted to be the first ones to try it.
